Story Title: He was a Fine Man
By: Lowell E. Gladish
I worked for Charlie for several years as Director of Underground Storage down in Greene County. Charlie was a good listener and always tried to follow up on needs we had that he could be of help with. I remember one time, we were without a land man to settle claims with our lessors. The lessors were always coming in my office mad because we did not have a person available to settle claims. The city was sending a claims man down to assist one day a week. We found out that when a lessor is upset about something, the sooner it can be worked out the better. One lessor in particular was about to padlock his gate at the oilfield. I sent charlie a memo to that effect and the following week we had a new land-man on board and the troubles were solved.
He loved to fish and we went to Lake Barkley together along with my Brother in law Jim Cole who owned a small A-frame cabin down there. We fished over a weekend and Jim and Charlie caught several fish. Me and a friend of mine fished one day and the other we spent golfing, but a good time was had by all. He is missed!!Best regards, Lou Gladish

    To the Kleis Family:

I would have visited the funeral home were it not for the fact I have to be out of town this weekend because of my job. My father, Lenard Shaffer, was a classmate and friend and I had to opportunity to meet Mr. Kleis on a number of occasions. I believe the last time we met was at the funeral visitation for another Ben Davis classmate, Rachel Bland Sears.
I wanted to tell the family what a nice person Mr. Kleis and I know my father always held him in high regard. On behalf of my brother and myself, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Kleis family on their loss. God’s blessings.

My husband and I are so sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. We have known Charlie for 40 years and I had the privilege of being his secretary in the 80’s. He was one the nicest, honorable men we have known. We will be out of town and unable to attend the services but will be thinking of his family during this time of remembrance .

    Carol and Mark,
So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. There are many memories that I have of Uncle Charlie, one being the movie projectionist with those bright lights! Cherish all the memories you have of your dad. Know that God provides comfort and peace for you.
    Love,
    Sharon and Dan

I know it is difficult to loose a loved one, but Charles led a full life. I know he is up in heaven fishing with dad. I will always remember him as a kind and caring man who truly loved his family.

Charlie Kleis was a fine, honest, hardworking man. I’m sure a loving husband to Helen and their children. He was my boss for a number of years as I was in charge of the Underground Storage Fields. I could always rely on his help and guidance when I need it. I always looked forward to his weekly visits to the storage fields. He was an avid fisherman and we fished together several times. He will be missed! Sorry, that I didn’t find out about his passing sooner, I would have paid my respects. May God look after him and all of his loving family

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Kleis. May we all look forward to the fulfillment of the Bible’s prophecy when all things like pain, sickness and death have passed away (Revelation 21:4). My sincerest condolences are with the family in this time of great sorrow.
